So welcome to this weeks blog. Greetings and salutations. Here we are into the first week of September, boy, how the time flies. We are now only looking at approximately one month left in the season. We should all get out there and enjoy it!!! This past week our temperatures have ranged from low 40's at night and now are into the high 80's and humid. We are expecting some much needed rain although it probably won't amount to much, but at this point any little bit will help.
The fishing this week has been very interesting to say the least. It's odd we are still experiencing flying black ants, and as far as the trophy stretch goes the fishing has been great. We been getting some good hatches of caddis in the evening and some mayflies in the morning. One of the very interesting parts of these days have been, fishing with large rubber leg grasshoppers or rubber leg stimulators. It's interesting because our major stonefly hatch has long passed us buy, but we still see the occasional one flying about. Fishing these large patterns don't always produce numbers of fish, but the many that we do catch have been very sizable. Just seeing a trout smash such a large fly on the surface is worth the price of admission right there. That's fun, I don't care who you are that's fun.
The changing of the season have started the fish moving around the lakes. They have been draining the lakes for the past several weeks now, which would certainly move the fish and concentrate to some extent. The salmon are starting to move and the lake traffic has been noticeably been greater. There has been many anglers up trolling 2nd Connecticut lake. We have been hearing of some nice catches and some sizable fished lost. It should only get better from here.
We'll folks the season is growing shorter, time is running out, the fishing is fantastic. So you all should get up here and get out while you can. The kids are back in school and the crowds have lessen.
Thank you, Tight Lines
