Welcome you all, tis the season. Sad, but all good things must come to an end. Yes this is it the end of the season is inevitable and it is near.
This past week after having a spell of nice weather we have been hit with a bout of very seasonable, cool dreary, drizzle and damp days. To say the least perfect fishing weather days as long as your not drifting. So when you head out in the morning, throw on an extra layer and make sure you have your rain jacket and hope for the best. The fishing been pretty darn good this past week. There hasn't been to many people on the water, there's always a good spot or two still open. It seems as though the fish have really started to concentrate. The recent spell of cold temps and low water flows have seemed to move the fish and make them the slightest bit more difficult.
This week has been, as much like always, very interesting to say the least. We started a fishing club in the local school here in Pittsburg. This past Monday was our first official outing, we've started with basic casting lessons after school in the gym and this day was the first day to put it into practice. It was a great day, the few kids that went out with us each caught fish on there very first time ever fly fishing. To me that's a very successful day. The kids did great they had many many opportunities to hook and land fish and some really nice fish at that. Some opportunities were more successful than others. But fantastic for there first time doing it.
We also had another opportunity to just cover water. A long time guest of mine was one of my last guides of the season. We caught a few fish in the morning and then he wanted to learn something new and get away from people. So what did we do? We headed down stream and threw streamers. Oh boy oh boy did we see some fish. We even caught a few, we saw some hugh Brookies and even larger Salmon. That's the best part of streamers is you move em' you don't always get em' but you move em' and quite often you move the big ones.
It is bittersweet, unlike baseball we have no postseason. Good Lord willing we'll have another year to try it all over again. We still have a few days left and I'll have my final blog of the season late next week. Til then tight lines.
PEACE BILL
