NH Fishing the Connecticut River Fly Fishing

May 20, 2007

So what's been happening, where are the fish? These are two legitimate and often asked questions. Well even though we've been thrown slightly askew with the recent downpours and insanely higher water releases. The rivers do not look fit for man nor beast. But the Salmon seem to be doing just fine. The truth is, right now the fishing in the North Country is pretty darn good. You just have to be versatile. With the rivers being so high it makes the wading and the fishing a bit tougher. There are still good numbers and good sizes of fish being caught. There has even been the occasional afternoon hatch of B.W.O's enough to bring the fish to the surface. The water temps in the rivers are holding steady and providing a wonderful climate for the trout.

There has also been some great fishing in some of the local trout ponds. These ponds have recently been stocked. We've been fishing these ponds some recently when the rivers have been out of sorts or just plain to busy. The ponds have produced good numbers of Brooks and Rainbows with some fish climbing into the 2 to 4lb class. The water temps on this ponds range around the 50 to 54 degree mark and also on a still afternoon or evening there has been an occasional hatch of B.W.O's.

The area has been fishing well and should continue to do so. There have been some crowds around but as the fishing progresses the crowds should spread out a little.

Remember, it's always a good day to go fishing. It's just some days you catch more fish.

   PEACE, tight lines,    BILL
