Hello, Hello,Hello, WOW what's been happening this week?

Well the water levels are low and the small streams are at minimal flows. The Trophy stretch is flowing at 101 c.f.s. Murphy Dam is flowing at 207 c.f.s. and the No Kill stretch between 2nd and first is flowing at 60 c.f.s. all of these flows are extremely low at best. Which in turn with the latest on slot of fishing pressure of the 4th of July crowds have made the fish very wary. They are starting to get use to seeing a lot of flies and lures and getting smart really quick..

So with this said, How's the fishing?  There are lots and lots of fish around. There are certainly not as many around after this weekend as before, but that's to be expected. I believe the Fish and Game has been more than generous with there 4th of July stocking this year. The fishing was great before then they threw a ton more fish for this weekends anglers.

This past week has been a week of certainly cooler temps and slight periods of rain. We had a good bout of rain yesterday (Sat July 7th) and in fact it is raining now (Sun July 8th) and has for the better part of last evening. This is exactly what we need. Not big heavy rains but a constant light rain to keep the streams running without the banks getting all muddy and blowing the river down stream. In turn also the cooler days has helped keep the lake temps and the smaller pond temps at least somewhat reasonable.

Our hatches have also been fairly predictable on SOME stretches of the river. We still have B.W.O's coming off with the slight addition of some light Cahills. Certain sections of our rivers will fish really well with an Elk Hair Caddis.

I did a float trip yesterday on the lower section of the Connecticut. It's should of been a nearly perfect day. Although slightly changing weather, threatening showers, there wasn't much as far as surface activity. We still caught fish although in the morning the fish seem to strike short a lot of times, the afternoon seem to improve as we got poured on by a sheet of water for half an hour or so. Generally we would see more fish towards the end of the float that just didn't seem to be there. Although when we got back to where we originally started off day, the boat was back on the trailer and we were heading home. The fish seem to be quite active and contently rising and feeding at will. "Go figure?"

That's why we keep coming back.  If it ain't easy, it's hard.

Til' the next challenge, keep that tip up.

PEACE,  BILL
