Howdy folks, what's all a happening? There has been plenty to do up here. The weather over all has been pretty nice. We did have some more heavy rain the other night. It was nothing to serious just enough to muck up the lower river for a day or so. I did have a few people ask when did they raise the water? " They didn't " It's just a little difference in the amount coming over the dams instead of through.
The basic story is the same, the fishing is great. But I will certainly be absolutely honest with you all. The trophy stretch is not producing as well as it did a week or so ago and we're not finding as many salmon as we did before. The are just getting more weary of people. But there is still a ton of fish out there. We been fishing a lot more caddis patterns on this stretch as of late. The evening caddis hatch has been a lot of fun and it will truly bring a bunch of fish to the surface where you would never think there would be a fish. And nice fish at that.
We've been fortunate where we've had cooler evening temps that is still keeping the water temps o.k. in the ponds but really good in the smaller streams like Indian and the Dead Diamond. These streams right now are a lot of fun to fish and fairly easy to wade. They have a lot of smaller wild brookies that generally come readily to a fly. Again caddis flies are a favorite and or small streamers.
This is the time of year when I'll start wading the stretches below Murphy dam. The water is always cold and it has great water flow right now. There are always good evening hatches much like down below where we do our floats. And over all it doesn't get much pressure. I had some of my best fishing days down there with always the potential of some great Browns.
So when are you all coming up? I was out yesterday (Saturday) I had a guide in the morning and another in the early afternoon. So essentially I spent approximately 9 hours on the water. I literally saw 1 other angler all day, other than the people I was out with. I know not everybody had that experience but it was fairly uncrowded all weekend. If you know where and when to go.
Peace, hope to see you all soon, tight lines BILL >,-"}}'>
