NH Fishing the Connecticut River Fly Fishing

Bill's River Blog

August 28, 2008

Good evening folks, How is everything outside there in the so called real world. We (the guides of Lopstick Lodge) live in a very narrow bubble at this time of the year. At least the bubble has been surrounded by pretty blue skies and down right high temps. Yeah it's been hot up here and the fishing has been great.

We've have still been slugging it out with the higher water flows in the trophy stretch. And quite often, even today I find that at best we break even. Which is better than going the other way. I just think if they ever drop these flows the fishing should be fantastic.

We have been still real busy guiding we're nearly full and out every single day. There has been some fantastic dry fly fishing with this last bout of warm weather. The floats have produce a great flying black ant hatch the past week or so. We are also starting to get a few fish on grasshopper and such. It doesn't see to be the ticket YET but some fish are taking the opportunity to feed on them. There has also been reports that the Androscoggin has fished quite well in the past week.

And lets not forget about the ponds. Well we've some pretty cold nights in the past week. So the temps have been kept down and the hatches have been prolific. There are still a few ponds we can't get to because of the rains we had a few weeks back washed out the culverts and closed the road. Well we'll keep on with the fight and as long you all keep coming up and requesting our services. It's been great and looking forward to the next month and a half. With the higher water flows and cold temps there are certainly some nice salmon coming in.

Thank You all, Keep on coming.    Tight Lines BILL
