Bill's Fishing Blog, Fishing Report for Pittsburg NH

Top of the evening to you all, well folks it's hard to believe thatBill Bernhardt, head fly fishing guide at Lopstick we're almost through another season. It's almost time for quitin' time. Yep it's certainly sad, kinda bitter sweet, it's a lovely time of of the year but I'm all to familiar with what's around the next bend. Please folks let there be no mistaking I love all my off season work and activities but I do very much miss being on the water and guiding. But good Lord willing and the creek don't rise we'll all be back to do it again.

So what's the skinny eh?? The leaves and the air tells us that Autumn is upon us. Unbelievable the beauty on the water these days, just looking around and admiring it's almost as good as the fish themselves.( Well almost.) Well we've still been out and guiding strong. I now think we're kinda in between, the fishing has been good although I definitely think it's not easy. The fish now have seen a little more and seem a little more weary. But once again "bitter sweet" It may be fall but are starting to move and the bigger ones are getting a little randy and a bit more opportunistic. It's the season of the "Bambino." Some of the more technical but exciting and rewarding. I've been doing a few more wades this week and we've found fish, some days more than others and even a few salmon.

The flows up here have been real good ample flows out of 2nd and 1st and 340out of Francis. The fishing has been good on the floats on these the evening has been O.K. I think the fishing remains better through the middle of the day. This past week we had some cooler weather and also a fair amount rain which was nice for water temps and putting more water in the tributaries, the down side we had to change a few plans due to cloudy water down stream on the floats. It was an odd beginning to the season and this continued throughout only time will tell what the last month has in store. It's always exciting to see whats next. They say weather this week may be slightly warmer this should help with hatch activity. Don't worry folks you can still elicit a response with an Elk hair caddis or a stimulator.

There ain't much time left folks so come on up and have some fun.

Peace, tight lines
