Bill's River Blog

June 15, 2009

Good evening one and all, well I guess actually it will morning by the time I'm done here. One day, one evening they all flow into darkness, always complete, smooth and seamless. From the evening hatch to fog rising like steam from a pot off the river and over the awaiting fields, rolls like liquid chrome. Through over and smothering nothing substantial and always moving, yes, no, the night becomes only to see the heavens and the beauty, cold, dark , white specks, omnipresent. Til' morn we'll do it again.

So folks how you all doing? Things up here in the north country are rolling along famously. Yeah, the fishing been great. There has been a few people around though, ( I suspect I'm a bit part of that.) But there has been plenty of fish to be caught. And there is plenty of water to fish.

The water flows this past week have been a little on the low side, there is still plenty of water and it is certainly quite favorable to wading. The water temps have also been great. The trophy stretch and down through Colebrook have ranged from 51 to 56 degrees. Perfect!!!! There has just been so much water to fish!!! Where do you start. The ponds and the big lakes have been fairly predictable and people have been raving of great days out spent trolling.

We've some rain this past week which hasn't been to bad. Although one day we were floating and it was down right cold it felt like early spring again. I had on four layer and two rain jackets. But it still fished well. This past Friday we did a drift and it rained in good shape in the morning. The morning fished well then the river started to turn dark and got worse as we ate lunch. With that I was still optimistic. We dredged with big flies and sinking lines through the muddy water. We had a few strikes and landed a nice bow. As the day worn on it happened as it has before dry fly activity. The food is on the surface you have one foot visibility and the fish are rising . God love um'. We fished dries the rest of the day. We probably landed 15,20 fish that day all but one was on a dry, and that's with the river coming up 2 feet and getting muddy.

The wading has been really fun also. There are a bunch of fish around and spread throughout the river. We been fortunate to have some hatches throughout the day (mostly caddis). We've been fishing dries and getting some beautiful fish. There are still some salmon around and some nice ones at that. I'm jealous, I spend nearly everyday on the water and hardly ever get a chance to fish. You all should take full advantage of that.

So you all out there.   PEACE,    tight lines,      BILL  >~;""}'>
