Gentle fall river flows make it easy to get around the river! Flows have come down recently yet are not 'low'. Brookies in their spawning colors are a beautiful catch this time of year. Salmon are entering the river in preparation for their fall spawn and it is gorgeous this time of the year here! Are you up for 'cast and blast'? Fishing season on the river and small ponds stays open until Oct 15th. Are you fishing the upper Connecticut River this fall? You should be!
Flies to try include the BWOs, Stimultors, Magog Smelt, Marabou Coachman, Adams, Red Copper Johns, BH Pheasant Tail, San Juan Worms, BH Prince, Hatching Pupa, Elk Hair Caddis, Grey CDC Caddis, and Wooly Buggers and Bombers.

| Upland Bird Hunting Season Opens Oct 1 |
 |
|
This year we will be training a new hunting guide; many of you already know our Jason Busfield. Jason is a top rate fishing guide who will also be headed to the grouse woods this October. He will be coming along for the hunting trips this fall as a second guide. Double the company!!!
We've been doing a good amount of early season scouting and have found bird populations to be very, very good this year. We expect a great season. We've seen good numbers of both grouse and resident woodcock in almost every area we go.
Woodcock opens later than normal this year so take note. Woodcock opens Oct 6 and grouse opens Oct 1. Due to us having a an extra set of guiding legs, we now have openings for bird hunting guide service. Available dates are... October 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 22 26 and 27.

Hello folks, top of the morning to ya, I hope you've had your coffee. We love our coffee, it certainly has been very welcome on some of these chilly mornings we've had this past week. The calender says fall starts today, but it is already here in Pittsburg.
Yes, it has been chilly this week. The air is getting crisp and the foliage is coming on to peak, and the brookies are just as spectacular. There were two days recently, when I struck out for my drift boat trips I had to brake ice off the boat cover. But not to fear yet the days have warmed up nicely and even today it was darn right warm.
The fishing has been in some fairly great shape and we've been having some good success on most days. Just earlier this week they dropped the water flows in the three sections of rivers below the dams.This has certainly made the wading a bit easier and has also allowed us to fish big dries a lot more successfully. There seems to be plenty of fish around although not always cooperative, but if you work hard and cover water you will at least certainly see them.
The fishing in the lakes seems to have become more popular as of late. As I head to work in the morning passing 1st Connecticut lake it wouldn't be uncommon to see 3 or 4 boat trailers at 1st lake boat ramp and even see some fish rising not to far off from shore. The lake levels have dropped considerably and the action should be heating up.
It is always a bitter sweet time of the year. The fishing is great and the foliage is superb, but you know it will all be over soon.
Salmo Salar,
PEACE, BILL <*),~{{
