So this is what they call Blogging..... Who would have ever thought.
Whoa, it's amazing here we are, almost at the end of the season. I sit here and write this as the rain drops onto our air conditioning unit. It makes me think back on the season listening to the rain a million drops before pounding on the A/C. Laying awake at night wondering if its bad enough to blow the rivers and if we'll be able to float the next day. I can't believe how quickly time goes. This rain we're having now is a nice rain, not to heavy a good soaking rain one that we have needed for an awfully long time.
We have certainly had some beautiful weather this fall, we've been very fortunate. I'll take nice days this time of year for we know all to well what could be and is just around the corner.
We've had some wonderful fishing days this past week. Some days better than others but we've still been finding fish even in the worst conditions. The Androscoggin fished really well this past week and I even did a float on the Lower Connecticut. The lower float was a bugger tough day, it was a day with changing weather, the river had a lot of leaves it and the wind blew constantly all day long at 10 to 15 m.p.h. But even with all that my guest still landed a few fish (one of which was a 14" Brown with absolute stunning fall color) and had several other strikes. Not to bad as far as I'm concerned for a cruddy day.
The fishing locally in Pittsburg has been some of the best I've seen it in quite a while. I been just FUN. It's like Forrest Gump said " you never know what your gonna get." There's been a little of every thing happening. With the latest spell of warm temperatures the evening hatches have been quite surprising. There was even a night a few days ago on a section of river where we had a large, large stonefly hatch. So we switched from our size 14 caddis to a size 8 stimulator and then really had some fun, as if catching Brookies in full spawning colors wasn't great enough.
The long weekend is upon us and in a blink of an eye she'll all be behind us. Unbelievable!!! The season is approximately 150/160 days long. Where has it gone? I hope you all have had more of a chance to go fishing than I have. As far as I'm concerned I don't think I could ever have enough and I know I definitely DID NOT have enough this year. There's still a few a days left hopefully we can all get out and do some more.
Thank You all, Tight Lines, small loops and a beautiful Brookie to boot. PEACE BILL
